WORDLESS BOOKS STRATEGY

PARENT AND CHILD ENGAGE IN READING
ACTIVITIES USING BOOKS WITHOUT WORDS

  1. Read through the book with your child talking about what’s happening and how the characters might feel.
  2. Ask your child to tell you one event that happens on each page as you re-read the book.
  3. Try using Post-it-Notes to write your child’s comments on and then read his or her story again.
  4. Wordless books help children understand that what they say can be written and what is written can be read.
  5. Wordless books allow that child to become the “author” and make the story be anything they want it to be.
  6. Wordless books often have wonderful artwork that is of high interest to young children.
  7. Wordless books help children to become good thinkers.
