The MAISD/ICISD General Education Consortium will officially begin with the first joint curriculum coordinators’ collaborative meeting in February of 2008. Superintendents, principals, and career and technical education staff will also look to meet collaboratively in the future. Both boards of education are committed to the concept and are eager to watch it grow in the years to come. Plans to hire a Director of Instruction for the consortium have been postponed after the top two candidates declined the position due to family reasons. The interview committee has decided to re-post the position in March with the idea of hiring a candidate in June of 2008. “Due to the importance of this new endeavor, the interview team is intent on hiring a candidate that provides the best “fit” needed to lead kindergarten through twelfth grade general education initiatives in each core curricular area in both counties,” notes MAISD Superintendent, Dr. Scott Koenigsknecht. In the meantime, Jay Tans, Interim General Education Director, will continue to work on fulfilling the needs of the local school districts and facilitate the collaboration between the counties.
