This past Friday, February 6th, members of the Ionia County YAC (Youth Advisory Committee) as well as 7 students from Lowell High School took part in the first of a two day Youth Leadership training. In all, there were 26 students who participated in the day long training that included instruction on service learning as well as a basic foundation of leadership skills.
The day was meant to educate students on the principles of leadership, what makes a good leader and what it means to be a leader.
The students were also able to set up a NING account which will enable them to communicate with each other outside of school or the few times they meet at the ISD.
During lunch, the students were treated to presentations from 4 members of Michigan State University. Of the 4 presenters, one was from China, one from West Africa and two from Malaysia.
The highlight of the day had to have been the mechanical bull that was brought in for the students for the last hour of their day. Each student had a chance to ride the dizzying device but not many were able to keep their balance for long.
The second and final day of training is slotted for February 20th.
