Parent Advisory Committee

What PAC is....

We are parents of special needs children who are in special education. We represent the local school districts of Ionia County. These districts are:
Belding
Coon
Grattan Academy
Haynor
Ionia County ISD
Lakewood
North LeValley
Palo
Portland
Saranac

We also represent the Ionia County Intermediate School District in its operation of special education programs and services.

What PAC does.....

As Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) members, we participate in the development and modification of Ionia County Intermediate School District’s plan for the delivery of special education programs and services. We also provide advisory input on matters that the PAC believes to be appropriate to the improvement of special education services in the county.

Our other activities include:

  1. Sponsor annual Special Education Awards Banquet
  2. Attend and sponsor programs that increase awareness of local services and state/federal laws.
  3. Provide parent support and surrogate parenting, if needed or requested.
  4. Participation on Ionia County Special Education Transition Council.

Their local school board recommends PAC members to the Ionia County ISD Board. Consideration is given throughout this process to ensure that membership represents the variety of educational needs of students enrolled in special education throughout the county.

Our meetings are normally held on the 4th Monday of the month during the school year. They are held at 7:00 pm at the Ionia County Intermediate School District. You are welcome to attend any of these meetings, but it is best to call first to be sure the meeting is scheduled.

Contact the Ionia County Intermediate School District at (616) 527-4900 or any of the PAC members if you have any questions, need some help, or wish to attend a meeting.
