Goodwill
Goodwill is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing lives through the power of work. Since 1968, Goodwill has worked to assist people with disabilities and other barriers to realize their full employment potential. Goodwill’s workforce development efforts are supported by the revenue from the Ionia retail store. Workforce development services are available for individuals in Ionia, Mecosta, Montcalm, Isabella and Kent Counties. Guardianship/Probate Court
Guardianship exists only when a person is determined by a court to be incapable of managing some, if not all, of his or her affairs. Guardianship needs to be addressed when the child reaches 18 years of age, although it is not always necessary to have a guardian appointed. The guardian is given the duty and right to act on behalf of the ward in making certain decisions affecting the ward’s life. Many different levels of guardianship exist. To begin the guardianship process, contact Community Mental Health at 527-1790, and file a petition for either full of limited guardianship. Bring a birth certificate or Social Security card for the ward. |

College Right now, you receive some form of assistance from your high school. It may be the use of a Teacher Consultant or attending different classes that are taught to your level. Colleges and trade schools are not required to provide these same supports. The following local colleges, most do, have special populations coordinators to help. If you are interested in attending college you should get a Transition Guide to College from your local high school Transition Liaison. Grand Rapids Community College 143 Bostwick Ave., N.E.
