By Daisy Cook, Transition Coordinator

Beyond the Horizon was a workshop hosted by the Community Transition Council (CTC) on April 21, at the Right Door (formerly CMH). The main goal of the Council is to inform parents and community members about transition related topics.  In past years there has been a housing summit describing various living scenarios for adults with disabilities and a resource fair of community organizations who provide to support individuals and families with disabilities.

This year the workshop included 4 presentations informing parents and young adults about Guardianship for children over the age of 18, Wills and Trusts for your disabled child, Employment and Supported Employment, Respite and Community Living Supports.  34 attendees were able to receive valuable information about these topics as they pertain to their young adult children who have various disabilities.   A huge thank you to each of our transition programs for providing the homemade treats!

A bit of background on the CTC.  We are made up of representatives from the Intermediate School District, Disability Advocates of Kent County, Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services, and ARC of Kent County. We meet monthly to plan events.  The invitation is always open for more members please contact me if you would like more information!
