Ionia County Intermediate School District is located in the middle of Ionia County at 2191 Harwood Road, Ionia, Michigan 48846.

Ionia County is located in the west-central part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and is bounded by Kent County to the west, Montcalm County to the north, Clinton County to the east, and both Barry and Eaton Counties to the south. Ionia, the county seat is near the center of the county, on the Grand River.

The area of the county is 575 square miles or 368,000 acres.  Within the County, 10 incorporated areas exist including the Villages of Hubbardston, Saranac, Lyons, Muir, Pewamo, Clarksville, and Lake Odessa, and the Cities of Belding, Ionia, and Portland.

The estimated population of Ionia County was 66,804 in 2020, which was an increase from 63,095 in 2010.

On the 2020 census form, 98.3% of the population reported only one race, with 4.8% of these reporting Black or African-American alone, 0.7% as American Indian and Alaska Native alone, and 0.5% Asian alone. The population is 4.8% Hispanic or Latino (of any race). There were 22,964 households with an average household size of 2.63 persons each. 

The median household income (2015-2019) was $57,043 and the per capita income in the past 12 months (2015-2019) was $24,864. 

The Ionia County Intermediate School District serves 11,000 students attending five high schools, five middle schools, and 17 elementary schools in eight school districts:  Belding Area Schools, Ionia Public Schools, Lakewood Public Schools, Portland Public Schools, Saranac Community Schools as well as three rural Schools: Coon School, Haynor School, and North LeValley School.
